Menk band was formed in 2017 in St. Petersburg when like-minded souls Juri and Kirill met at Slam City, the underground venue Juri was running at the time. Their shared love of proto-prog and psych sounds from the golden era of ‘68-’72 naturally led to the creation of a band.
Menk take those influences and fuse them with a sludgy, hypnotic sonic attack, channeling the spirit of The Verve and Dead Meadow — where the ghost of Nick McCabe’s trippy, mind-bending guitar work seeps through a dense, atmospheric haze, deeply embedded in the fabric of 'II' LP.
With a firm belief in uncompromising musical expression, Menk aim to take the listener on a profound, immersive journey — a pure spiritual experience, like catching a glimpse of sunlight through a storm. Their music oscillates between darkness and light, each track acting as a passage between the two. Some songs were recorded on a Tascam porta studio in different locations, capturing fleeting moments—fragments of jams, spontaneous first takes.
Now playing with new drummer Anton, Menk continue to explore sonic textures and new musical connections, constantly evolving while staying true to their ethos. The band will introduce their new single live on February 27 at the iconic 8MM Bar in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin.
